The Fabergé Egg
Few objects in the history of jewellery are as storied as the Fabergé egg. Created for the Russian Imperial court and now among the most coveted works of art in the world, it remains the ultimate expression of the House's artistry — a tradition that continues today in the egg pendants you can wear.
An Imperial Tradition
In 1885, Tsar Alexander III commissioned Peter Carl Fabergé to create an Easter surprise for the Empress Maria Feodorovna. The result — the Hen Egg, its plain enamelled shell opening to reveal a golden yolk — so delighted the court that Fabergé was named goldsmith to the Imperial family. An egg was created every Easter for the next three decades. Some fifty jewelled Imperial Easter Eggs were made for the Romanovs between 1885 and 1916, each a marvel of enamel, gold and concealed "surprises." Today they reside in the world's great museums and most important private collections.
A Living Legacy
Reborn in London, Fabergé continues its founder's mastery of guilloché enamel and vivid coloured gemstones. The contemporary collections translate the romance of the Imperial eggs into jewellery to be worn every day — most beautifully in the egg pendant, a wearable heir to a legacy of more than a century.
