Blackout Concept — A Geneva Outlier

Swiss Watchmaking, Off-Script.

Swiss watchmaking has rules. Blackout Concept ignores most of them. Forged carbon cases. Sapphire on both faces. Flying tourbillons hand-assembled in Geneva by master watchmaker David — certified across twenty-six Swiss maisons. Not the loudest house. Not the most familiar. That’s the point. Authorised in Australia, exclusively through Vendôme.

How Blackout Works

An honest answer to an expensive question.

Blackout are one of a very small number of watchmakers publicly honest about where each part of the watch comes from. The base movement is sourced in Asia. Finishing, assembly and quality testing happen in Geneva, under head watchmaker David — a master watchmaker, certified across twenty-six Swiss maisons.

The result is a flying tourbillon — the same complication traditional Swiss maisons list between €148,000 and €151,000 — from A$4,995. Same mechanics. Different cost structure. No mythology.

Every piece ships with a 36-month international warranty, and full Vendôme after-sales support in Sydney. Servicing, authentication.

Blackout

XP1 Tourbillon LT Black

A$4,995

Asian movement, Swiss-assembled

A flying tourbillon is the same complication whoever builds it: a cage that rotates the escapement once per minute to neutralise gravity's effect on timekeeping. Invented in 1801, it is one of the most demanding assemblies in mechanical horology. Traditional Swiss houses build their own tourbillon movements in-house, with decades of R&D amortised across each piece and months of hand-finishing at the bench. That is why they cost what they cost — and the price is fair for what it is.

Blackout's answer is different but not dishonest. The tourbillon module is sourced from a Chinese manufacturer with three decades of experience building them for Swiss and independent brands. Regulation, finishing, casing and QC are done by a single Geneva watchmaker certified by twenty-six Swiss maisons. The module is mechanically equivalent. The price is a fraction of what a comparable Swiss-built tourbillon costs. No mythology, no marketing margin — the watch as a piece of engineering, sold at something close to what it costs to make.
